How to Make Jalebi – An Indian Pakistani Dessert Recipe

You think that making Jalebi is horrible and messy???? Wait, you are wrong!! Try this Jalebi recipe. Jalebi is a sweet Indian – Pakistani Dessert, made of deep fried dough. Jalebi is all time favorite sweet on any special occasion, be it a birthday, a wedding or a festival!! This dish can perfectly described as funnel cakes. Jalebi’s can be made thick and juicy or thin and crispy as you like. It tastes awesome when served hot!!!

Ingredients Required to make Jalebi?

Ingredients for Batter:

·         Plain Flour (Maida)                 1 cup
·         Gram flour(Besan)                  1 tsp
·         Fresh Yeast                              ½ tsp
·         Ghee                                        1 tbsp
·         Sugar                                       1 tsp
·         Yellow food color                    3 drops

Ingredients for Sugar Syrup:

·         Sugar                                       ½ cup
·         Saffron strands                        a few
·         Lemon Juice                            ¼ tsp
·         Ghee for deep frying

Method to prepare Jalebi?

Method for Batter:

·         Sieve the plain flour and gram flour together
·         Take 1 tbsp of water and dissolve the yeast
·         Now add flour mixture, yeast solution, ghee, sugar and food color with 2 – 3 cup of water to make a thick batter, and make sure no lumps remains there
·          Keep it for 10 minutes

Method for Sugar Syrup:

·         Take ½ cup of water and add sugar in it
·         Simmer for 5 minute till sugar dissolves and syrup is of string consistency
·         Add saffron and lemon juice & stir well
·         Remove from fire and keep syrup aside

Proceeding to Jalebi:

·         Take a heavy bottomed pan, heat ghee in it
·         Fill the Jalebi batter into piping bag with a single nozzle or a cloth with small hole which is finished with button hole stitched so that it should spread further
·         Press out round spins into the hot ghee working loosely from outside to the center of the whirl
·         Deep fry the Jalebi till golden brown & transfer into warm sugar syrup
·         Drain immediately and serve hot!!

Tips

Do not allow the Jalebi batter to over upheaval.
Fry Jalebi immediately once the batter has rested for 10 min
